Mayowa Kuyoro has emerged the 2013 winner of MBA Scholarship to Harvard , a graduate of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Warwick, UK. Out of the seven contestants, she emerged as best.

In 2010, the 7Up MBA scholarship scheme was instituted to mark the 50th anniversary celebration of the 7Up Bottling Company. Ever since, the company has been awarding full scholarship to one Nigerian for a two-year MBA programme at the Harvard Business School.

The first award in 2011 was given to Miss Misa Rewane, Economics degree, Stanford University, who has just completed her programme at the Harvard Business School and the second recipient, Mr. Olujimi Williams, Master’s in Mechanical Engineering with Business from the University of Manchester, has only just completed his first year of the programme. The three scholars were Nigerian graduates who only had their O’level in Nigeria and went to study abroad and qualified by 7Up’s definition of residency.

In his remarks at the ceremony held in Lagos, the Executive Director of Human Resources, 7Up Bottling Company Plc, Mr. Femi Mokikan said though delighted that the recipients are Nigerians, however, said that he wished they emerged from our local universities.

He urged Nigerian graduates from local universities to apply for admission into HBS to qualify for the scheme with absolute belief in themselves and with the hope of getting funding from the company.

He said; “We are looking forward to that day when the recipient would be somebody that went to University of Calabar or University of Ilorin, one who has never even been to the international airport so that we can feel fulfilled that at least this project is accomplishing that for which we instituted it.”

He also noted that the scholarship scheme is aimed at providing Nigerians with the opportunities to acquire skills and competencies that will improve them to become global leaders.
